This woman bought 4 containers, and transformed them to build a beautiful house!

Building your own home is a dream for many people, but it is not at all within the reach of everyone: Materials are expensive, as are builders. If we do not have good savings, we are obliged to make a loan if we want to embark on such a project, which makes things much more complicated. And if you want to have a nice house, original and spacious, the rates go up even more …

A Quebecer, Claudie Dubreuil, living in the city of Mirabel, south of the French-speaking Canadian province, has found the right solution to build a house that is both luxurious and affordable: containers for the transportation of goods.

She has transformed these containers into an absolutely beautiful and unique house. However, she already had experience: she runs a family business, building specializing in construction. She was able to use her experience to create her own project, using recycled materials!

This woman bought 4 containers, and transformed them to build a beautiful house:

For starters, she went to a port next door to buy the containers, up to 1500-2000 euros each.

The most difficult was to cut the containers so as to make the necessary openings to the windows and doors. This stain took him over 2 weeks.

Then, it was necessary to assemble the containers on the foundations, so as to obtain the basic structure for the house

To dress the exterior, she used Canadian pine wood, giving a rustic and modern look to the building. So we do not see the metal, and it also allows to isolate the interior of the house. As the containers are quite narrow (2.4 meters wide and 12 meters long), she placed two side by side to make the first floor.

The large openings of the containers could be metamorphosed into large windows. The second floor is made of another container arranged in the shape of a cross, placed on top.

Once the outside part finished, it was necessary to take care of the interior design. For that, Claudie Dubreuil already knew that she wanted the basic material of the containers to be visible. Indeed, it would have been a shame to cover everything, since that is also the originality of this house!

To preserve the “industrial” touch, she left part of the interior with bare metal walls, simply by replacing the old paint with an impeccable white.

As for the furniture, she decided to bring furniture that matched the very particular and very elaborate design of the house: for example, metal tables, but also old cases of ammunition of the army recovered and rehabilitated in storage.

However, next to this very modern metal part, there are also wood or brick coverings, which give a more welcoming and warm side to the whole.

The different ambiances of the parts of the house give an eclectic design, with a very original juxtaposition of different materials. Here, the table, lighting and storage on the wall give something rustic and warm, which contrasts with the hardness and modernity of the metal.

The perfect place to sunbathe after dipping … There is even an outdoor shower!

With all this wood, we almost forget the container that is underneath!

A very practical desk to work and give free rein to his creativity …
