These products are in your fridge? It’s a mistake look:

Do not put anything and everything in the fridge, this device invented in 1876 by Carl von Linde. You might think that you are resourceful, thinking that you are saving money and avoiding waste by extending the life of some of your food products (you are to a certain extent). But you are actually making their taste abhorrent or inedible.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh eggs …

As odd as it may seem at times, do not refrigerate these foods as this may alter their taste.

All foods are not stored in the fridge. Some products do not support the cold weather. This is particularly the case of citrus fruit, chocolate or tomato.

In the cold, the ripening process is slowed down. Now, the more they mature, the more tasty the tomatoes are. In addition, because of the low temperatures, its texture is altered. It becomes more “floury,” says Harold McGee, specialist and food columnist at The New York Times, ABC. It is best to keep them in a basket or fruit cup on the outside of the refrigerator.

The cucumber

It wilts faster in the fridge, better keep a place in a bowl of fruits / vegetables in the kitchen.

The debate is lively around the conservation of eggs. Their porous shell absorbs the strong odors of other foods. It is therefore better to keep them at room temperature (as at the store) and ensure the expiry date.

Keeping a potato cold turns starch into sugar. The potato will then become sweet and floury. According to Martha Stewart, “potatoes should be kept in a cool, dry and dark place with good ventilation (note: cellar, laundry, reserve …). If stored properly, they can stay fresh for weeks. “

Many people put honey in the refrigerator, but it only thickens it ferociously and crystallizes it (even after opening). This sweet substance does not require cooling or freezing to stay good. Unless you like to eat cold honey, you can put this golden, bountiful ingredient into the worry-free pantry.

If you want to thin out cold honey, you can place the open pot in a pan of hot water. It will find a soft and fluid texture, ready to run on your bread or yogurt.

The lawyer

When you buy a mature avocado and you do not want to consume it directly, there is no point in putting it in the fridge. It may darken and become hard as stone. It is best to keep it at room temperature. If it is not yet ripe, it can be stored at room temperature in a paper bag to speed up the ripening process. Unless it is cut. In this case, spread a little lemon on the flesh to prevent it from oxidizing and cover the fruit with cellophane paper and keep it in the crisper of the fridge.

The bread

It becomes dry and hardens cold. Better to pack it in a plastic bag or canvas to keep the crumb. Freeze as needed to preserve it.

If the experts agree that the grains are kept cool, dry and far from the light, it is better to keep them out of the fridge. Indeed, the coffee loses its flavor and give the smell to the rest of the food preserved in this refrigerated place. Better to keep it in a cabinet or an airy reserve.

The Basilic

It quickly decays in the fridge. It also absorbs the strong smells of certain foods. Better to keep it in a glass of water, like fresh flowers.

Tropical fruits

Pineapple, passion fruit, banana … are fruits accustomed to warm temperatures. The cold annihilates the enzymes that allow their ripening.

Several studies have shown that our refrigerator is a nest of bacteria. The drawer, specially designed to accommodate vegetables, could contain up to 750 times the concentration of bacteria considered safe.

Most people store this fruit outside, just on the kitchen table for example, and it’s good. If you put them in the fridge, they darken, but the interior will remain good for consumption.

If in both cases, everything is fine. That said, it seems obvious that it is not necessary to put cold bananas (unless you want to eat cold precisely, in which case we can not find anything wrong, all tastes are in nature).
