The researchers argue that this has something to do with the attraction of the partners. The happiest couples no longer feel the need to attract a new partner; therefore, they are less stressed by appearance. Meanwhile, those who are in chaotic relationships keep a slim figure to continue to attract partners.
Even if these couples do not have to worry that their partner only likes them for their appearance, the problem remains to know if stable relationships have a negative impact on health.
Psychologist Andrea L. Meltzer, who led the research, said couples need to be careful about their weight gain, as this can lead to health problems such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
“By focusing more on weight in terms of health impacts than on appearance, satisfied couples can avoid potentially dangerous weight gain over time in their marriage,” she says.
It is not a problem if you do not pay attention to your appearance, because you know that your spouse will still love you despite that.
