Stop buying blueberries. Follow these tips to have at will at home

Having regular blueberries on hand is a great way to add some sweetness (and vitamins and minerals) to your favorite breakfast or smoothie. They are also tasty by themselves. Unfortunately, they can be a little expensive.

But if you grow your own blueberries at home, you can enjoy fresh fruits from your garden for free.

Follow the following tips for growing your own fruit:

Select the right bush: Before planting your blueberry, do some research to choose a bush that will best fit your climate. Some berries look better in humid climates, while others support cold temperatures very well.

Take the soil into account:

Acidity counts. The Almanac recommends a soil acidity between 4 and 5. (Here is a quick way to check the acidity of your soil). If your soil and / or weather conditions are not ideal for growing berries, you can plant them in pots.

Plant them properly:

Your berries need a lot of sun and good soil. If you plant them in the ground, choose a very sunny place. Leave at least 1.5 feet between each bush. If you opt for pot planting, choose a 45cm pot. Give him 2 to 4 cm of water a week.

Protect them:

Protect them from insects, birds and other hungry creatures by putting bamboo sticks around your plant and covering it with a protective net.

Take several blueberries:

Myrtle trees can produce fruit for 20 years, according to the Almanac. To ensure their longevity, prune your bushes every three or four years. As trimmed bushes will not produce the year they were pruned, you may want to have several shrubs to alternate.

Take the best:

When the blueberry is planted in early spring, the berries are usually ripe in July. Once they have become blue, wait a few days. The ripe berries will fall alone from the bush in your hands.

Its blueberry culture is a great way to create your own patio or balcony garden if you live in a small place. If you know of friends who would like to have their own supply of this fruit, share these tips with them on Facebook.
