What is behind this attempt at greenwashing is that capsule coffee machines generate tons of waste. Already in 2012, we had reached the 27 billion capsules thrown in the trash. When recycled, the amounts of water and energy used are simply scandalous.
The billions of capsules Nestle throws in the trash are an ecological disaster in more ways than one. They are made of aluminum, so their manufacture requires enormous amounts of energy. The food giant proudly claims that a study has shown that its capsules cause less harm to the environment than filter coffee: what misleading advertising! This “study” was paid for by Nestlé: independent studies present a completely different picture.
