It is the Naturalisa brand that launched the idea in March 2015. The organic brand proposed to its customers to embark on the manufacture of grain bombs. The “Green Guerilla” movement comes from the USA. His wish is to restore, to nature, its nobility in the cities.
Seed bombing can restore greenery in empty or congested public spaces in order to repel all kinds of biodiversity. By sending these ecological seed bombs, you can create your own plant spaces. These bombs allow the implantation of various kinds of plants in often inaccessible places and also to be creative by developing plantations. Once launched, these small time bombs only need the rain to germinate.
If you sow seeds like that, in any wind, there is a good chance that the birds will eat them. Hence the interest of seed bombs: in their gangue of land, protected from birds, the seeds can germinate in all tranquility.
Seed bombs to bloom the city!
How to make it at home?
Here is the recipe explained by the site:
Ingredients (for a dozen small seed bombs):
- 5 volumes of compost: 1/3 of garden soil, possibly with some compost or compost
- 4 volumes of clay – 2/3 of clay (or very clayey earth) –
- 1 volume of organic seeds mixed
The ideal is to take clay soil near you. Otherwise, you can fall back on pottery clay loaves, for sale in leisure stores. Third solution (the least expensive): sachets of clay powder.
Be careful: clay clay tubes are to be avoided because they contain glycerine and many other dubious products.
For the seeds: Privilege organic seeds, to avoid spreading anything in the nature.
“Mix everything and moisten until you have a thick consistency. Then you roll with delight the sticky clay pellets in his palms. If the structure is too dry (hard to ride, not standing) we add a little water, if it is too wet, we add a little soil. The proportions obviously depend on the type of earth and clay. “
When to drop your seed bombs?
The best months are April and June, because the spring showers and sunshine provide the seeds with everything they need to germinate, without you having to intervene. It is also possible to sow seed bombs in the summer, but care should be taken to water them if the weather is too dry.
I will also retest the experiment in the fall, to see if it germinates as well.
The concept is not recent
It has been around for more than 25 years. At the time, it was linked to a protest against the nuclear. The Guerilla gardeners then came out at night, masked and armed with bombs containing seeds to bloom the greyness of the cities wildly.
All the elements that offered them the city allowed them to hatch their bomb!
Abandoned objects, wasteland, uninhabited building, sidewalk, car carcass …
Since then, this movement has gained momentum and has become popularized by wild vegetation movements, such as Guerilla Gardening, whose goal is to reintegrate vegetation into spaces where it is absent.
Remember, however, that this movement does not in any way affect private places where the owner has a “property of use”. For these movements, the public space is a playground where the human being should flourish in the best conditions. Thus, when a land is “dormant”, they vegetate it!
