Magical mushrooms develop and repair brain cells, new study finds

Research at the University of South Florida has shown that psilocybin, the component found in these psychedelic mushrooms, has the ability to develop new brain cells. This offers a lot of potential for the medical world and the progression in the treatment of mental illnesses and even the improvement of cognitive functioning. This is something we should explore more deeply as we discover that these properties are capable of doing feats for humanity.

Experimental Brain Research states that psilocybin is able to bind to special receptors in the brain that stimulate healing and growth. This means that fungi are able to help the growth of brain cells. This research revealed that after testing psilocybin in mice, it was able to help repair damaged brain cells and even cure / relieve PTSD and depression.

Dr. Juan R. Sanchez-Ramos, principal investigator of the study at the University, tested the effects of psilocybin in mice by causing them to be afraid of receiving an electric shock when they heard some noise that been associated with the electric shock. Mice that received psilocybin responded much faster to triggering noise than mice that did not.

Magic mushrooms develop and repair brain cells:

Dr. Juan R. Sanchez-Ramos states:

“The proposal that psilocybin affects cognition and stimulates hippocampal neurogenesis is based on extensive evidence that serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) acting on specific 5-HT receptor subtypes (receptor more likely 5-HT2A) is involved in the regulation of neurogenesis in the hippocampus. In vitro and in vivo animal data are sufficiently convincing to determine whether psilocybin will improve neurogenesis and lead to measurable improvements in learning “.

There is still much to be learned about these effects to know what its benefits are in medical science, but for the moment this drug is considered illegal. People who traffic mushrooms need to be aware of the still-stringent laws that surround them. Be careful, and never stop being curious!
