You have probably already heard about popular wisdom: “do not put on your skin what you can not put in your mouth”. Softeners go from our clothes to our skin and then further into our body and do damage.
It has been proven that phthalates are dangerous for hormonal balance in animals and they are often only used to perfume linen. Therefore, by using softeners, we are not only hurting ourselves, but also our loved ones.
For all these reasons, it is best to turn to nature and make your own natural home softener. The ingredients in this natural softener are simple – essential oils, apple cider vinegar, baking soda and water.
- 800 ml of cider vinegar
- Essential oil (optional) about 20 drops with the perfume of your choice
- 100 grams of baking soda
- 150 – 200 ml hot water
In a large plastic container of about 3 to 5 liters, mix vinegar, baking soda and water. And watch out for the chemical reaction of these ingredients. There will be bubbles everywhere.
When the bubbles calm down and the liquid drops, pour it into a glass jar where you will keep your fabric softener.
You can add a few drops of an essential oil that you like, close the bottle and shake it well.
Do not take more softeners additional advice:
Shake well before each use. Use 4 tablespoons of this mixture per machine.
Use the mixture as your usual softener.

Another green tip is to use white vinegar
It is 100% natural and 100% effective. Simply fill the tank for the white vinegar softener, and your clothes will be softer!
Petrochemical fabric softeners are environmentally friendly because they contain quaternary ammoniums, chemical compounds with high detergency. Due to, among other things, residues that end up in wastewater, the use of softeners causes water pollution.
