To summarize, these people are likely to do everything to control your life. If you have had a relationship with this type of spouse, you probably have had to feel often away, without understanding why you felt that because it was very subtle.
How are these people able to maintain relationships? Through fear, manipulation and demoralization.
Self-doubt is often a cousin very close to lack of trust. Sociopaths break your confidence to make the relationship last and manipulate you.
Here are 6 sentences that some people use to break your confidence
1. “YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ME. “
“Gaslighting is a tactic in which a person or entity, to gain more power, makes a victim feel like a victim,” writes Dr. Stephanie Sarkis. Sociopaths use gaslighting because “confusion weakens people”.
Essentially, sociopaths use this expression to (a) get someone to question themselves and (b) satisfy their insatiable need to feel good. They often use this tactic to recover from a situation that they believe diminishes (or threatens to diminish) their power.
2. “YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON / WE ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER. “
At the beginning of a relationship, it is not uncommon for sociopaths (or narcissists) to implacably verbalize their “affection” for you. This is not normal behavior. In the best case, the person is unbalanced, for example, a stalker. In the worst case, well, they are great manipulators.
3. “YOU NEED ME. “
Sociopaths crave control. In fact, feeling or knowing that their victim has abandoned their personal will is their first desire.
Do not give in. The fact is, you do not need it. It is essential to separate emotions from logical thinking when dealing with a sociopath.
4. “I HATE THE DRAMA / YOU ARE A QUEEN DRAMA. “
It is an expression that sociopaths use to create a sense of uncertainty.
In truth, sociopaths like drama, because without it, they would not be able to realize their manipulative and selfish plans.
5. “YOU ARE STUPID / INCULTE. “
This last sentence reinforces the fact that sociopaths are capable of abusive behavior. Again, sociopaths have no inhibition to hurting people emotionally, physically or psychologically.
Now, combine this capacity for abuse with a baseless but very real sense of superiority of this type of person, a need for control, and no mercy for what they want.
